2024 Tbird Club Holiday Party and Year Wrap-up: In a Poem!
One of our clever Tbird club members, Elaine, who has been graciously volunteering to create our newsletter for the last several years, wrote a poem that was also an activity for our year-end holiday party this year.
How it worked: All participants gathered in a circle and several poinsettias were passed out. As the poem was read, every time we heard the word “right” or “left” the plant was passed in that direction. It was pretty fun, and a really good summary of our fabulous year, too! Thought we’d share it with you.
Classic Thunderbirds of San Diego 2024 Holiday Poem and Year-end Wrap-up
2025 is RIGHT around the corner but it feels like we just LEFT 2023! RIGHT now I want to give a quick review with whats LEFT of 2024.
The first big event to start the year RIGHT was the Dr George Charity Car show in Palm Springs. Those of us who LEFT San Diego early Friday were treated to lunch at the lovely mid century home of Shelly and Gary RIGHT nearby. Others LEFT in time to meet at the show the next day. The day was lovely and the snow capped mountains nearby LEFT us looking forward to going RIGHT back next year!
We had a great turnout for our meeting at Elijahs RIGHT on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Many of us took home LEFT-overs from the generous portions served there.
The turnout for the Air and Space museum was also fantastic and happens to be RIGHT where the Ford Building was during the California Pacific International Exposition.
Our cruise from the Presidio through Mission Hills to The San Diego Mission took us RIGHT by a replica of the same Ford Building.
Motorcars RIGHT on main street did not disappoint. We LEFT Bill and Marcy and were parked RIGHT at Star Park.
Santee Lakes was another fun outing in support of the Ollie Smith Automotive Scholarship RIGHT at Cuyamaca College.
Our traditional Memorial Day cruise LEFT us moved by the ceremony aboard the USS Midway which included patriotic music and an emotional speech paying special tribute to fallen nurses who LEFT us during the Vietnam war. A missing man flyover was performed RIGHT above our heads. We then LEFT to caravan through Shelter Island and RIGHT up to Ft Rosecrans but LEFT after finding the road was closed to through traffic.
Members came out to support the Garden of Innocence car show in Sorrento Valley and once again came RIGHT alongside selling coffee, donuts and water for this worthy cause. At the end of the day, nothing was LEFT of the donuts.
We had a great showing of classic Thunderbirds (and a couple 60s Tbirds too!) at the Main Street America car show RIGHT at the Embarcadero. The San Diego Corvette Club organizes this fabulous club favorite event supporting the San Diego Center for the Blind. We held our meeting RIGHT in the shade of a tree, and enjoyed talking to all the people who lit up when they saw our great lineup of classic Tbirds.
As summer heated up, we opted to meet inside at Elijah’s restaurant, which generously offered us their private party room. A good thing too, because we had more members show up for our guest speaker than we’ve seen in a RIGHT long time! More than 30 members came to have lunch and listen to our speaker, an expert mechanic with lots of experience with classic cars. Members LEFT having received great insight on a wide variety of issues.
Cops and Rodders was another fun event RIGHT at the Embarcadero on the waterfront RIGHT by Seaport Village.
Our annual picnic was held at Liberty Station. Although Right under the San Diego Airports flight path, the fellowship and potluck complete with Thunderbird logo shaped cookies and a “vomiting” pumpkin LEFT us awed by the creativity of our members and craving more of that delicious pulled pork!
Our last cruise of the year was a well attended coastal route from Mission Bay, around Fiesta Island to Mt Soledad and Kate Sessions Park. Lots of RIGHT and LEFT turns along this beautiful route. It was a perfect day to take the top off and let the sun shine RIGHT in!
Wrapping up our year, Our annual “Toys for Tots” drive was a great success! We held it at Mossy Ford RIGHT near our old Mission Bay location. It was a great turnout with lots of Toys, Fords and friends.
All in all, 2024 has LEFT me thankful for the support of our awesome Board, nothing like having the RIGHT people on your crew, and for the friendships we have all forged RIGHT here in our own little slice of paradise. May your holidays be just RIGHT, and your New Year Happy, Healthy and bRIGHT!
